New Library at Kilamangi - Sankar's village

15 Aug 2020

Kilamangi is a small tribal village hidden within the rolling hills & scenic valleys of Eastern Ghats along the border of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha, 150 kilometers north west of Visakhapatnam.

Life in the hills involves intense physical labor and the struggle is tougher, especially for the farming families, who have little time to pursue even elementary learning. They live so far that education facilities are out of reach for them, and even telephone connection is not practical.

Sankar, one of the Siri stars belongs to this indigenous tribal community of 17 families, along with few of his friends took the initiative to convert a dilapidated home into a library. They approached Siri Foundation for monetary support. The entire project took them approximately 30 days to finish manually with mostly locally sourced materials. It was opened on August 15,2020 and being used for conducting classes for young children during this COVID 19 pandemic. This community development endeavor involves older students mentoring the younger ones.

Siri foundation's volunteers, friends and families visited Sankar's village on Jan 17, 2020.
